A Jodhpur court sentenced Salman Khan to 5 year prison term in the 1998 blackbuck killing case. The Khan has also been fined a penalty for Rs 10,000. He is being taken to Jodhpur Central Jail. The 'Dabangg' star had a total of four cases against him related to the 1998 poaching incident. Three of these cases were to do with violations of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, while the fourth case, in which he was acquitted last year, was for an Arms Act violation.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has constituted a committee to frame rules to regulate news portals and media websites, according to an official order which came a day after the government withdrew its contentious guidelines on fake news following widespread criticism.

Two-time world champion Flora Duffy of Bermuda lived up to her favoured status to win the sprint triathlon by 43 seconds   and collect the first gold medal of the 21st Commonwealth Games. The top-ranked Duffy came out the opening 750-meter swim leg just behind Jessica Learmonth, both around 9 minutes, 35 seconds.

The Reserve Bank today tightened the rules to discourage use of virtual currencies like Bitcoins and also announced a study to explore introduction of 'fiat' digital currencies which can be issued by it. An interdepartmental group has been constituted to study and provide guidance on the "desirability and feasibility" to introduce a "central bank digital currency".
